Analysis of the match between FC Bayern München and FC Augsburg
After a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory over Saint Gilloise in the Champions League classification round, Bayern Munich extended their unbeaten run to 11 consecutive matches. Notably, during this impressive streak, the “Grey Tigers” recorded 10 wins and only one draw.
Such dominant form has helped Bayern establish a safe gap at the top of the Bundesliga standings. After 18 rounds, the Bavarian giants have collected 50 points, sitting 11 points clear of their closest challengers, Dortmund. At this pace, Bayern’s 13th Bundesliga title in the last 14 seasons appears to be only a matter of time.
At this stage, fans are less concerned about the title itself and more curious whether Bayern can break their own records, including the 91-point mark from the 2012/13 season or the 101-goal tally set in 1971/72. That, however, is a story for later. For now, Bayern remain an almost insurmountable obstacle for Augsburg.
In stark contrast, Augsburg are mired in a fierce relegation battle. Although head coach Manuel Baum has suffered only two defeats in six matches since replacing Sandro Wagner, Augsburg have gone five consecutive games without a win.
This poor run of form has left Augsburg in 15th place in the Bundesliga, just four points above the relegation zone. Given the current circumstances, it is difficult to believe Augsburg can pull off an upset, especially considering they have lost to Bayern in eight straight meetings.
